The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Qatar was established in June 1997 to strengthen bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the State of Qatar.

The Embassy promotes political, cultural, trade and investments, consular and labour relations.

  • President H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa visits Qatar

    On the invitation of H.H. Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the President of Sri Lanka visited Qatar to attend the 12th Doha Forum from 19th-22nd May 2012.

    His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar who visited Sri Lanka on an invitation extended by H.E. the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, concluded his two - day official visit on 16th January 2012. It was the first visit by a Head of State from that country to Sri Lanka. The high level delegation accompanied by the Qatari Emir comprised of ministers, senior officials and a group of prominent business leaders.

    Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar paid an official visit to Sri Lanka from 12th to 13th December, 2011 accompanied by Youse Hussain Kamal, Minister of Economy and Finance and over 20 heads of Qatari investment agencies together with a high powered business delegation.

    Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa, First Lady of Sri Lanka attended the 5th International Shafallah Forum held in Doha from 22nd-24th January 2012. During her stay in Doha, Madam Rajapaksa met with H.H. Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned. She also visited the Stafford Sri Lankan School in Doha.

  • Sri Lankan returns QR 90,000 found in mall parking lot

    DOHA: A Sri Lankan who stumbled upon QR90,000 in the parking lot of a shopping complex and handed it to the security personnel of the facility to be given back to its owner, has been honoured by police.

    The Ministry of Interior said on its Twitter and Facebook accounts that Mohamed Nebras was felicitated by the Director of the Capital Security Department for his integrity and honesty.

    The ministry posted a photograph that showed the Director, Brigadier Nasser Jabr Al Nuaimi, honouring Nebras.

    No details were given as to when and where the incident took place, how Nebras found the cash and where he worked and in what position. The news, however, went viral on social networking sites in the Sri Lankan community in Qatar, with many showering praise on him saying he had done them proud.

    In Sri Lanka, QR90,000 ($24,715) is huge money (Sri Lankan rupees 33,00,000) and can even buy one a small home. Nebras is indeed a man of exemplary character and honesty, said compatriots.

    In no time, over 700 Sri Lankans had shared the news on Facebook and Twitter, saying ‘Proud to be a Sri Lankan’ as soon as it was released by the ministry.

    One commentator, lauding Nebras, said: “Great gesture, honesty will be rewarded well,”, while another said: “Proud to be a Sri Lankan; hats off to you”.

National Day of Sri Lanka celebrated at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Doha


A flag hoisting ceremony was held to celebrate the National Day of Sri Lanka at the Embassy premises on 4th February 2014.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador H. E. Mr. Jayantha Palipane, hoisted the national flag and lit the traditional oil lamp amidst a large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriates in Doha, Qatar.

Christmas 2013

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Doha celebrated Christmas on 27th December 2013 at the Embassy premises. A large number of Sri Lankans expatriates attended this event.
