Sri Lanka the Little Wonder of Asia
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Qatar was established in June 1997 to strengthen bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and the State of Qatar.
The Embassy promotes political, cultural, trade and investments, consular and labour relations.
At the invitation of President Maithripala Sirisena, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar visited Sri Lanka on 24th March 2015.
The Emir was warmly welcomed on arrival at the airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, accompanied by Minister of Highways & Investment Promotion, Hon. Kabir Hasheem as the Minister-in-Attendance, and Sri Lanka Ambassador to the State of Qatar, H.E. Jayantha Palipane.
President Maithripala Sirisena and the visiting Emir of Qatar held bilateral discussions on strengthening cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
Three (03) Memoranda of Understanding were signed on Cooperation in the fields of Sports, Mutual Cooperation on Exchange of News and Youth during the visit.
Fifth Session of the Qatar – Sri Lanka Joint Committee, based on the Agreement concerning the Regulation of Sri Lankan Manpower Employment in the State of Qatar was held on 29th March 2015 at the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Doha. The Sri Lankan side was represented by the Secretary Foreign Employment Mr. G.S. Withanage, Chairman SLBFE Mr. N. Wickramasuriya and the Actg. Additional General Manager SLBFE.
Hon. (Dr.) Wijayadasa Rajapaksha, Minister of Justice and Labour Relations participated at the 13th Session of the UN Crime Prevention & Criminal Justice forum held in Doha in April 2015. Minister Wijayadasa had a special discussion with the Director General/UNOV and Executive Director /UNODC, Mr. Yury Fedotov addressed the Session on “Maritime Crimes”.
Minister of Highways and Investment Promotion Hon. Kabir Hashim and the Chairman of the Board of Investment Mr. Upul Jayasuriya visited Doha to participate at the 15th Doha Forum held on 11-12 May 2015.
During the visit the Minister met with H.E. Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce of the State of Qatar and had discussion on prospective Qatari investments in Sri Lanka.
The Minister and the Chairman of BOI also visited the Qatari Diar.

A flag hoisting ceremony was held to celebrate the National Day of Sri Lanka at the Embassy premises on 4th February 2015.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador H. E. Mr. Jayantha Palipane, hoisted the national flag and lit the traditional oil lamp amidst a large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriates in Doha, Qatar.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Doha celebrated Christmas on 26th December 2015 at the Embassy premises. A large number of Sri Lankans expatriates attended this event.
