New Passport Requests

A Sri Lankan citizen can apply for a new passport or passport renewal, while he is in another country, through the Sri Lankan Embassy in the State of Qatar. These applications are processed by the Overseas Missions Branch at Immigration Head Office.

New Passport

Ordinary passports are valid for 10 years from the date of issuance unless otherwise endorsed. A new passport should be obtained on the expiry of 10 years from the date of issue, or if there are no pages for visa endorsements.

Holders are responsible to applying for new passports in advance before the expiry of their present passports/ run out of pages for visa endorsements.

​Apply for New Passport

1. Eligibility

  • A Sri Lankan citizen by descent or by registration can apply for a Sri Lankan Passport.
  • Ordinary passports are valid for 10 years from the date of issuance except for endorsement. Applicants are advised to apply for the new passports in advance with all required documents below. On the expiry of 10 years from the date of issue, or if there are no pages for visa endorsement, a new passport should be obtained. These applications are processed by the Overseas Missions Branch at Immigration Head Office.

2. Documents Required

  • Duly completed application form (Form ‘K’- 35 A) (Download Here)
  • Three clear photographs with blue background 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size. (Please attach clear photographs with the full front face, both ears, and neck visible, without covering the face with the hair and without spectacles and caps. Photographs should be taken within 03 months. Should not be gloss or semi-gloss)
  • Current Passport
  • A photocopy of the Data Page of the current Passport (Page No. 2 & 3).
    A photocopy of the Observation and Alteration page of the current Passport (Page No. 4 & 5).If alternations are available. Do not attach blank pages
  • Original Birth Certificate issued by Government of Sri Lanka and its photocopy.
  • Original Sri Lanka National Identity Card and its photocopy.If your NIC number has been changed, kindly submit the confirmation letter of the identity card number issued by the Department of Registration of Persons along with the New Identity Card
  • Original Marriage Certificate (only for female applicants if the surname of the husband should be included in the passport: Optional).
  • If you intend to alter your profession or include a new profession in your new passport, please be mindful to submit all the documents of Educational/Professional qualifications and Service letter to prove the new profession. Please note that the profession which was mentioned in your visa is not sufficient to prove your profession for the new Passport.
  • Copy of the Dual Citizenship Certificate (Those who have dual citizenship)
  • Copy of renunciation Certificate for applicants who are born abroad and aged more than 21 years

3. Instructions for Filling Apllication

  • Application should be filled preferably in BLOCK letters
  • Three photographs should be furnished as specified in the application. Please ensure that the signatures are confined to the cages provided immediately below the photographs

4. Fees

New Passport Fee: QAR 575/-

5. Important Note

The new passport will be issued within 90 days after direction of the duly submitted applications to the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka. However, kindly note that the Department of Immigration and Emigration has the discretion to consider certain criteria (which include discrepancies of the photographs, the NIC number submitted are and etc.) prior to issuance of a travel document and hence the time taken for the receipt of your travel document is subject to vary.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE APPLICANT SHOULD PHYSICALLY BE PRESENT ALONG WITH THE CURRENT PASSPORT TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION AND FOR COLLECTION AS WELL.

Apply Passport for a Minor (Under 16 Years)

1. Documents Required

  • Duly completed application form. (Form ‘K’- 35 A) Download Here
  • Consent letter signed by both parents. (NOC) Download here
  • Three clear photographs with blue background 3.5 x 4.5 cm in size. (Please attach clear photographs with the full front face, both ears visible, without covering the face by the hair and without spectacles. Photographs should​ be taken within 03 months. Should not be gloss or semi-gloss)
  • Current passport of the child and its photocopy
  • Current passports of Parents and photocopies.
  • Photocopies of the Data Page of the current Passports (Page No. 2 & 3).
  • Photocopies of the Observation and Alteration page of the current Passports (Page No. 4 & 5), If alternations are available. Do not attach blank pages
  • ORIGINAL Birth Certificate of the child issued by Government of Sri Lanka  & its photocopy (translations are not accepted).
    Parents’ ORIGINAL Marriage Certificate and its photocopy.

​NOTE

If a child is born outside of Sri Lanka, should provide Consular Birth Certificate & its photocopy

  • Citizenship Certificate or a copy of the payment receipt if the certificate is not issued at the time of application.
  • If the originals of the above are not with you please submit photocopies of the same.

Please Note: For Child’s Passport Applications, the Child’s Name/ Child’s Signature (Which can be placed by the parents) should be mentioned in the cages provided for signatures.

3. Additional Notes

THE CHILD MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY BOTH THE PARENTS TO THE EMBASSY WHEN THE TIME OF SUBMISSION OF DOCUMENTS.

IF BOTH PARENTS CAN NOT BE PRESENT AT THE TIME OF COLLECTION OF THE PASSPORT, ONE PARENT OF THE CHILD SHOULD BE PRESENT AT THE EMBASSY WITH THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE ABSENT PARENT FOR THE ISSUANCE OF THE CHILD’S PASSPORT

Emergency Travel Documents

 

1.Eligibility

An Emergency travel document (Non-Machine Readable Passport (NMRP) is issued to enable a Sri Lankan national to return to Sri Lanka in case of an emergency in the following circumstances.
* The original passport is lost/damaged/stolen
* The original passport is expired
Temporary Travel documents are valid for 03 months from the date of issue and issued for the sole purpose of returning to Sri Lanka. The applicants cannot travel to any other country by using a NMRP passport or cannot use it to obtain a visa to further stay in Qatar

2. Documents Required

  • • Duly completed Form K 35 application (please use English Block Capital).
    • 03 color photographs of size 3.5 cm * 4.5 cm (background should be light color except white) Please paste 02 photos in the application,
    • Your photos must: be a close-up of your full head and upper shoulders, both ears and the forehead clearly visible and free from spectacles and head covers.
    • Current passport and photocopies of the data page of the passport.
    • Copy of the Original birth certificate (certified English translations will not be accepted).
    • Copy of the flight itinerary or seat reservation for emergency travel to Sri Lanka.

​NOTE

If the current passport is lost:
• In addition to the above documents, copy of the complaint made to the Qatar police that your passport is lost and an English translation of the complaint done by an authorized translator.
